Hair Guide
Choosing a new wig or extensions online can feel like guesswork. This guide explains the terms you'll see on our listings so you can buy with confidence. If you're still unsure, contact us before you order and we'll help you choose.
Colour codes
Most brands use the same basic number system:
- 1 – Jet black
- 1B – Off black, the most popular natural shade
- 2 – Darkest brown
- 4 – Medium brown
- 27 – Honey blonde
- 30 – Light auburn
- 33 – Dark auburn
- 613 – Lightest blonde
Codes with letters are mixed or two-tone shades. "T" usually means a two-tone colour, with a darker root fading into a lighter shade. "P" means highlights mixed through. Codes starting with "O", such as OP430 or OM27, are ombré shades.
Each brand blends its shades slightly differently, so always check the colour chart on the listing. We photograph our products ourselves, so the colour you see is as close as we can show it. Colours can still look a little different from screen to screen.
Wig cap types
- Lace front: a sheer lace panel along the front hairline, for the most natural-looking edge. Many are pre-cut, so they're ready to wear.
- Lace part (5 inch part, L-part, deep part): lace only along the parting, so the parting looks natural while the wig stays easy to wear.
- Full cap / drawstring half wig: no lace. These go on in minutes with combs and a drawstring. They're ideal if you want a quick change of style.
- Hand-tied: each hair is tied by hand for lighter, more natural movement.
Synthetic or human hair blend?
- Synthetic hair keeps its style after washing, needs less maintenance and costs less.
- Human hair blends mix human hair with synthetic fibre for softer, more natural movement.
Every listing tells you which fibre it is.
Can I use heat on it?
Only use heat on styles labelled heat-friendly, and never go above the temperature given on the listing or pack. Standard synthetic fibre that isn't heat-friendly can melt. If you're unsure, test a small hidden section on a low setting first.
Braiding and crochet hair
- Crochet braids come pre-looped or in loose bundles to install with a crochet needle.
- Pre-fluffed styles, like our Poppin collection, are ready to install straight from the pack.
- Bulk braiding hair has no weft and is used for single plaits, twists and braids.
Check the pack count on the listing. Many packs are "3X", meaning three bundles in one pack.
Caring for your hair
- Detangle gently from the ends upwards. For curly styles, use your fingers instead of a brush.
- Wash in cool or lukewarm water with a shampoo made for wigs or synthetic hair.
- Don't rub or twist. Gently squeeze out the water and pat dry with a towel.
- Let wigs air dry on a wig stand to keep their shape.
- Store wigs on a stand or in a hair net when you're not wearing them.
